This completely unmarked but fully lit Ford Flex Limited passed me this afternoon in route to some sort of call. I can’t say for sure that it’s an undercover police car, but I know that most volunteer firefighters in my area just have a little basic light bar on the dash/roof, not a full light setup like this had. We also don’t have Hatzolah or anything here so that’s out. Either way, I absolutely adore the idea of a completely unsuspecting vehicle that can become a full-fledged, light-up-like-Vegas emergency vehicle, like this undercover Ford Mustang patrol car I saw with a miscreant pulled over in Indianapolis. As a general rule, I think Europe is better at these plain clothes enforcement vehicles than we are, but feel free to prove me wrong.

In like ‘06 I saw an unmarked V6 Stang being used by the Delaware State Police.
A department near me is rumored to have an F-150 and a Mustang in service though.
The ones that get me usually are older cars and trucks. Like an unmarked ‘92 CVPI still in service.

It definately make sense. Tons of room and they were only 1/10 second slower than a WRX.

Indy is big on those Mustangs, especially in the month of may they are all out and about. Indiana also has the Dodge trucks that look like construction trucks. I don’t know if Indiana is trying to compete with Ohio or what.

My city just got a brand new silver GMC Sierra 4 door that’s an undercover cop. Really sneaky down in Florida.
There’s also a Civic coupe that’s been riced to fight Street racers. And there was a MINI Cooper undercover unit as well.
I know the town over has a beige Highlander with a stick figure family...

Legend has it that there is an unmarked Smart somewhere in the city of Ottawa. On the day of the War Memorial Shooting, I saw a bunch of unmarked cruisers fly by, including a 2nd-gen Escape and a newer Outback.

In my home town, there was a purple Dodge Caravan in under cover use. I saw it light up an Eagle Talon driven by a kid with come questionable hobbies.

But I don’t think these ever do traffic stops. But seeing a plain old Avenger go flying by, fully lit up along with two Tahoes really opens your eyes. With everyone looking for the obvious Chargers, Tauruses, Explorers, and Tahoes, you forget that they drive ANY American make out here in the Southwest.

A few years back, the Estonian police got a deal from the German military or something, on a batch of green VW Bora’s/Jetta’s. They looked exactly like this, with steelies and all.
Also, the Beaverton Police in Oregon liked to re-purpose confiscated cars for traffic and DARE duty. Some wore the Police DARE livery, but not all. There was a handful of Mustangs or several vintages a 3000GT and a Subaru ( that I can remember.
Now, the I5 corridor between Portland and Seattle is patroled by generic white cargo vans, Ford Edges, Mustangs, generally all domestic though.

The new truck the park wardens here have is pretty sneaking. Just a work-truck trim F150 with no visible difference from any if the other parks service trucks beyond the small-print “park warden” in the green stripe down the side that all the other trucks have. The reds and blues are thin little LED boxes in the top corners of the front and back windows, maybe a 1/2" tall at most, plus a couple white strobes in the grill. Fortunately they don’t have radar for measuring speed, but they'll book you for any other traffic violation.

Ricer Civic, now that’s smart. Somebody’s thinking over there.

I got speed-checked by a plain white Impala with instant-on, next town over. Saw him with fresh catch on the way back.

I’d love to be that officer. His whole job is to drive around and Rev at people while blasting shitty rap music on busted speakers.

Indiana has been indifferent to Mustangs and Camaros for the last 15+ years. It’s around this time when they come out to play along I-65 between Crown Point and Indianapolis.

My favorite was an F Body PMY Trans Am I saw with someone pulled over on I65 (in about 2010, way after they were police cars elsewhere)

Agreed. Within the last five years I’ve spotted a ‘93ish Dodge Dynasty, hidden red and blues in the grille, interior flashers on dash and package tray, and rear lamp strobes. A town near me has always run Camaro/GTOs, I’ve seen SUVs of all ilk, but who the heck runs a 20 year old Dynasty?
![]() 04/18/2016 at 21:27 |

If I were a cop and got assigned a Dynasty in 2016, I’d push it into a lake or something.

No Sr2o but on 2 occasions I’ve seen a 2014 Hyundai Sonata both silver and both lit up on the highway. I can’t wait to catch it on my dash cam.
I’ve also seen an NYC yellow cab with plainclothes officers driving around Harlem. Infiniti G37X with 3 officers in it, Nissan Pathfinder, 2007 Accord and a few others I probably can’t think of.

not sure I'd call it a "favorite" but this sure is stealthy... only tipoff is A-pillar light (not always present) and bubble antenna on roof. Oh, and ghost markings down the side which are NOT shiny like you see in the picture, more like matte white on white.

My most memorable moment was an asshat in a 7-series bobbing and weaving out of traffic. Less than 5 miles later, there was one of Indiana’s finest hopping out of a Camaro.
I’ve had many moments in my life where I asked “Where’s a cop when you need one?” That was one of the few times there was.

AND anything with a front vanity plate. Who expects vanity plates on a police car? In-grille LEDs and visor lights I can spot 8/10, but I don't look twice if there's a vanity plate!

In Acworth, GA theres a completely unmarked first gen Cadillac SRX. Its mostly blacked out, but lights up like a christmas tree. Would never suspect it, I’m guessing its a seized vehicle.

other than occasional drug confiscated vehicle it’s pretty run of mill up here, (Explorers, old Crown Vics, Chargers, a few Tauruses, a few Caprice PPVs, some Tahoes...)

NYC taxi cab cop cars.

I’ll take any excuse to post this thing. Not that sneaky, but the most badass. I get happy when I see one, which is rare for a cop car.

I usually look at the rims. Chrome rims would normally indicate not a cop... I was proven wrong yesterday...

Growing up in Charleston, SC, there was either an officer or a detective that had a late ‘90s silver BMW 5-Series (not sure what engine). The only reason I know this is because I saw him pull someone over on I-17 one night, with the full inboard light set up.
I can spot an unmarked Crown Vic, Camaro, Malibu, or Charger about a mile away. But, I would never expect to get pulled over by a euro-sedan.

I’m having trouble finding the picture, but I know Fairfax County in VA has a VW Minivan police car. It’s totally unmarked.

Found it! it was actually another Oppo Post that I saw it on!

Well, the Avenger could be had w/ the 3.6l Pentastar... 283hp/3,600 lbs (minus donuts).

That BMW was probably about to pull over this guy.

That’s hilarious. In the dozens of times that I have seen that movie (yeah, I’m a Nick Cage fan; what’s it to you?), I have never made that connection.

My local sheriff’s department has a couple of bro trucks. No joke. And a tank...
I got pulled over by a 2013ish Camaro. He was tailgating the shit out of me in the Crossfire, so I just kept speeding up until about 80 in a 65. He pulled me over and said he is “racing enforcement” and knows I wasn’t trying to race him, let me on my way.
